Artist Resume

For many years I have lived in two worlds, that of artist/calligrapher in my free time and the other world of engineer as my former profession. My art reflects the convergence of these two worlds. By incorporating the elements of engineering (math, precision, and geometry) into my artwork, I have created a series of unique linear graphics and abstract watercolors. Each one is an original and no two are identical. At last my two worlds have come together in one expression.

I am inspired by the world around me. Artwork lies hidden everywhere. In my mind I transform the things I see into basic shapes and primary colors to become my original artwork. Sometimes there is a delayed reaction and the vision of the artwork just pops into my head hours later, or the vision may appear in a dream.

Although painting is a two dimensional art form, I like to give the illusion of a third dimension by adding texture to my work.

When I work with watercolors and ink, I prefer to use hand made cotton paper. The paper has a rough surface and takes on additional texture as it dries because I do not tape it down while it is wet. I have recently been recreating some works using cardboard and corrugated paper to produce some interesting artistic illusions.

When working with canvas, I prefer to use acrylic so that I can add a variety of textures to each creation giving them a unique combination of shape, color, and depth.
